Leading aesthetic device developer Candela brings us GentleMax Pro, a dual wavelength laser with a multitude of applications. The GentleMax Pro contains two separate laser heads (Alexandrite and Nd:YAG) that create a single, combined beam of high-intensity light. Common areas of skin laxity in the face include the nasolabial folds (between the nose and the mouth), jowls, and so-called “double chin”. GentleMax Pro treatment is so effective because it uses two different wavelengths of laser energy, 755 nm and 1064 nm. These wavelengths are both commonly used in aesthetic procedures as they are non-ablative, meaning they don’t damage the outermost layer of the skin, or epidermis. What’s great about GentleMax Pro, is that the epidermis is actually protected by a built-in cooling system in the device!

HOW DOES LASER TREATMENT TIGHTEN SKIN?

Laser energy creates heat, and skin heating is the key to the GentleMax Pro’s success! Focused laser energy narrows down the treatment area precisely, targeting looser skin. Because of its accuracy, the surrounding skin tissue is not affected. As the skin is heated, it causes a collagen response. Neocollagenesis (the process of making new collagen) helps to smooth, tighten, and support the skin from the inside out. This is because chemical proteins released by cells help the body to make new collagen and induce tissue remodeling. Studies show that combination laser treatments cause the body to continue to remodel the skin 6–12 months after treatment, and that regular treatments get even better results.

With GentleMax Pro, the deeper dermis is reconfigured, but the protective outer layer of skin, the epidermis, is unaffected. This means patients can enjoy a comfortable procedure and a shorter, simpler recovery!

FITZPATRICK SKIN TYPES

The Fitzpatrick Scale is a skin pigmentation classification system used by providers to optimize treatment. Interestingly, the creators of emoji characters use it, so you’ll also see its range if you use emojis on your phone! It’s important to differentiate skin tones because some aesthetic treatments are a better fit than others for certain skin types. For instance, certain skin treatments, such as microdermabrasion, are more likely to result in darker patches for patients with a darker skin type. Dr. Mylissa’s dedicated team wants you to receive the most effective skin-tightening treatment. And the first stage of any beauty treatment is a thorough skin assessment at a personal consultation. We invite you to book a one-on-one consultation at our Delray beach location. At that time, we’ll take down some of your relevant health details and medical history and thoroughly examine the areas of your skin. We will note any facial skin laxity and examine the places where wrinkles have developed on your face. Once this is complete, we will schedule your appointment.

PREPARATION

Before your treatment session, it’s important to follow our directions closely to ensure you maximize your results.

If you take anti-inflammatory medications (such as aspirin or ibuprofen) or blood thinners, please tell us. We may ask you to stop using these before coming to see us for your treatment, as they can interfere with its effectiveness.

PROCEDURE

Every laser skin tightening procedure will look slightly different, depending on the area(a) of your face you want to address. Most sessions are less than an hour long from start to finish. You will sit comfortably on our treatment chair and we will provide eye protection for you to wear for the duration of the procedure. Then, your provider will make passes over the problem areas with the GentleMax Pro handpiece to saturate the target area with varying levels of high-intensity light. Once your session is complete, you will be able to leave immediately afterward!

RECOVERY & RESULTS

Recovery from non-ablative laser skin tightening is very easy! At first, you can expect your skin to feel slightly tender, which is a similar feeling to having a sunburn. Discomfort is minimized by the use of the device’s built-in cooling system, which protects the uppermost layer of the skin from damage. The time you wait to get noticeable results will depend on the reason for your treatment and the number of treatments you receive. And with skin tightening, collagen and elastin production is not immediate. However, over the coming days and weeks your body will start to produce more of these molecules to help firm, tighten, and tone your skin! 

CORRESPONDING & COMPLEMENTARY PROCEDURES 

FIBROBLAST SKIN TIGHTENING

Fibroblasts are connective tissue-forming cells. And with plasma fibroblast skin tightening, patients can target a variety of skin conditions including sagging, wrinkles, and poor skin elasticity. Using a special pen-like device, your provider induces tiny micro-injuries to stimulate the release of fibroblasts that remodel the surface of the skin, making it tighter and smoother. The procedure is minimally-invasive and does not involve any long skin incisions or stitches.

BTL EXILIS ULTRA SKIN TIGHTENING

The Exilis Ultra is another skin-tightening device, but unlike the GentleMax Pro, it uses fat-burning radiofrequency and ultrasound to lift and tighten many areas throughout the body. With a 30-60 minute treatment session, patients can enjoy a treatment that encourages new collagen production and enhanced tissue remodeling, for tighter, smoother skin.
