ABOUT ROSACEA

Rosacea is an inflammatory disorder that causes facial redness, flushing, and acne-like bumps. Rosacea can also cause enlarged blood vessels, papules, pustules, erythema, blushing, and sensitivity to the skin. Some patients with rosacea may also experience eye irritation, known as ocular rosacea, and in severe cases, rhinophyma, which is a swelling of the nose due to thickened skin.

If flushing and facial redness are common in your family, you may be more susceptible to rosacea. It’s also more noticeable in people with fair complexions. Men and women can develop rosacea, though it is more common in women. However, in men, the condition is usually more severe.

WHAT CAUSES ROSACEA?

Rosacea affects roughly 2-22% of fair-skinned people. While the exact cause remains unknown, it is believed to be triggered by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Some common triggers include stress, spicy foods, alcohol consumption, temperature changes, exercise, and hormonal changes.

Diagnosis of rosacea is typically made through a physical examination and medical history. In some cases, blood tests or biopsies may be necessary to rule out other conditions.

At Dr. Mylissa’s Medical Boutique we offer the GentleMax Pro Laser we offer a range of treatment options for rosacea. This laser treatment targets the underlying blood vessels that cause facial redness and flushing, resulting in clearer, more even-toned skin. The GentleMax Pro Laser is safe and effective for all skin types and requires no downtime.

WHAT IS GENTLEMAX PRO?

The GentleMax Pro platform by Candela is a dual-platform system, with both an Alexandrite and Erbium:YAG laser for the in-office treatment of rosacea and a number of other conditions, including:

  • Benign Pigmented Lesions
  • Diffuse Redness
  • Hair Reduction
  • Spider Veins
  • Vascular Lesions
  • Angiomas and Hemangiomas
  • Venous Lakes
  • Port Wine Stains
  • Pseudofolliculitis Barbae (PFB)

The GentleMax pro uses a special Dynamic Cooling Device to protect the treatment area. This minimizes the potential side effects for the patient. By treating the blood vessels themselves, the laser system addresses the cause of the symptoms of rosacea and relieves them effectively.

GentleMax Pro produces light energy at two wavelengths, 755nm (best for skin types I-III) and 1064nm (best for skin types IV-VI). This makes treatment completely customizable according to a patient’s individual requirements. Laser treatment is particularly suited to patients with more severe symptoms and visible blood vessels.

PREPARATION

To ensure a smooth and successful procedure, it is important to follow these preparation guidelines:

  • Avoid using any exfoliants, such as scrubs or acids, for at least one week before the procedure.
  • Inform us of any allergies or medical conditions that you may have.
  • Stop taking blood-thinning medications two weeks before treatment.
  • Refrain from wearing makeup on the day of the surgery.
  • Follow all post-procedure instructions given by Dr. Graber to ensure a speedy recovery and optimal results.

See our menu for more Facial and Skin Care Treatments.

PROCEDURE

During the procedure, we will use the GentleMax Pro Laser to deliver controlled bursts of light energy to the affected area. This energy is absorbed by the blood vessels in the skin, causing them to constrict and fade away over time. The laser also stimulates collagen production, which can help improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of acne-like bumps, papules, and pustules.

In addition to laser treatments, we may recommend topical creams or oral medications to address any underlying inflammation or sensitivity.

RECOVERY & RESULTS

After your procedure, Dr. Mylissa Graber will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions. You may experience some redness, swelling, or tenderness in the treated area, but this typically subsides within a few days. Avoiding direct sunlight and using sunscreen is crucial during the healing process to prevent any complications. Dr. Mylissa may also recommend certain skincare products to help soothe your skin and maintain your results.

Results from rosacea treatment can vary depending on the severity of your condition and the type of treatment you receive. However, most patients notice a significant improvement in their symptoms after just one treatment. Your skin may appear smoother, softer, and more even-toned. Some patients may require multiple treatments to achieve optimal results, but Dr. Mylissa will work closely with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that meets your needs.

The cost of your rosacea treatment will depend on several factors, including the severity of your condition and the type of treatment recommended by Dr. Graber. Rest assured that our team is committed to providing you with the most effective and affordable options available. During your initial consultation, Dr. Graber will evaluate your skin and recommend a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs. She will also provide you with an accurate estimate of the cost associated with your treatment plan.

HOW IS ROSACEA DIAGNOSED?

Diagnosing rosacea often involves a physical examination of the skin and a discussion of your medical history. In some cases, a biopsy may be necessary to rule out other conditions.

IS THERE A CURE FOR ROSACEA?

Unfortunately, there is no cure for rosacea. However, with proper treatment, it is possible to manage the symptoms effectively and prevent flare-ups.

WHAT ARE THE TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR ORSACEA?

Treatment options for rosacea vary depending on the severity of the condition. Mild cases can often be managed with topical creams, lotions, or gels. More severe cases may require oral antibiotics, isotretinoin, or laser therapy.

ARE LASERS EFFECTIVE IN THE TREATMENT OF ROSACEA?
